This World heritage site  Alcobaca Monastery was built in the 12th century in the gothic style.  It was given by the First  king of Portugal, Afonso Henriques to the order of monks of Cister.  In the transept of the beautiful church you will find the most famous tombs in Portugal.  A  tragic love story of the middle ages in Portugal, the final resting place of King Pedro and is love Ines de Castro.

After seeing the church I encourage you to cross  the street and visit the Alcoa pastry shop for the most delicious sweets and Bica (Bica is an expresso coffee in Portuguese) Enjoy!!
