AVEIRO is a small city South of Porto that is built at sea level for the canals, they are the ancient “streets” for the traditional boats (moliceiros) salt transporters, one of the products of this region but now a days are tourist cruise boats.!Aveiro is famous for their sweets made of eggs (ovos moles).

CASA DE MATEUS, DOURO VALLEY

Casa De Mateus (recognized by the Mathew rose wine label) is a private palace and gardens, in baroque style , built in the 18th Century. MANUELINO, the style of Portugal

In the early 16th century (the golden period of the country) Portugal was governed by King Dom Manuel the 1st. This decorative style started in Batalha Monastery and is hand carved all over churches and monasteries (the most impressive example of this style  is found at Jerónimos).

This style is also called, late gothic or gothic from the sea, both make sense because in fact the structures of the buildings are gothic, with influences from the sea such as sea shells,cables from the ships, coral, anchors, the armillary sphere, and the order of Christ Cross, the last two where the arms of King Manuel.

There is much more to discover in the Manuelino, it would be a pleasure to show you these symbols woven into the most beautiful works of art around Portugal.

Calçada Portuguesa (Portuguese sidewalk Pavement)

In Lisbon around year 1500, during the  anniversary celebration of king Manuel, the mud in the streets caused many problems for the annual event. The Portuguese were the first bringing exotic animals from Africa and while parading the famous white rhinoceros in the muddied streets the majestic’s animal feet got covered in mud as did the people in their finest clothing for the anual parade. For this reason was decided that the main streets of Lisbon were to be pave using beautiful white limestone and black basalt nowadays almost sidewalks and squares are pave with the most incredible artistic mosaic.

Guimaraes The First Capital of Portugal

This city is located in the northern part of the country and is designated a UNESCO world heritage site.   Guimarães was the capital of Portugal in the  12th century and is one of the most beautiful medieval sites in Portugal. Here the tourists can enjoy the typical streets, churches and castles, excellent food and the world famous GREEN WINE (green because it is fresh, light and young) the most exported wine of Portugal.

FATIMA Sanctuary

May 13, 2017 Centenary of the apparition of the Virgin Mary. May 13, 1916  the Virgin Mary appeared to  3 children, Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco (saints since May 13) in Fatima, Portugal. This year was a very special celebration 100 years since the appearances. With the visit of the Pope Francisco and pilgrims from all over the world uniting.
